Maine runs on community, hard work, and taking care of the land we call home. That’s exactly why we started Maine Compost Co.

We’re Josh and Olivia, a husband-and-wife team from the Lewiston/Auburn area with a shared passion for sustainability, healthy soil, and building something meaningful for our community. What started as a simple question — “How can we create a service that truly gives back to the people and places we love?” - quickly grew into a mission.

The answer was composting.

Every day, thousands of pounds of food waste end up in landfills across Maine. Instead of becoming a valuable resource, that material gets buried and wasted. We knew there had to be a better way. Through composting, food scraps can be transformed into nutrient-rich compost that helps grow healthier food, healthier gardens, and healthier communities.

Josh has spent years studying composting systems and sustainable waste management, including attending the Maine Compost School and building strong relationships within Maine’s composting community. Olivia, born and raised in Androscoggin County, has always believed in supporting local communities and creating positive change right here in Maine.

Together, we built Maine Compost Co: a locally owned curbside compost pickup service created for Mainers, by Mainers.

Today, we proudly provide residential compost collection throughout the Lewiston/Auburn area and surrounding communities. Our service is designed to be simple and convenient. You fill your bucket with food scraps, we pick it up curbside, swap it with a clean bucket, and make sure those scraps are properly composted instead of landfilled.

But this is about much more than waste removal.

We believe healthy soil is the foundation of a stronger future. Compost improves soil health, supports local food production, helps retain water, reduces landfill waste, and gives nutrients back to the earth naturally. It’s one small change that creates a real impact.

As we continue to grow, so does our vision. In addition to residential service, we now work with local businesses to help divert food waste through commercial composting solutions. Our long-term goal is to continue expanding sustainable services throughout Maine while staying rooted in the communities we serve.

At the end of the day, we’re just your neighbors who care deeply about this state and the people in it. We’re incredibly grateful for everyone who supports local, believes in sustainability, and chooses to compost with us.
